GOMACO Three-Track Commander III

The best-selling multi-purpose slipform paver of all time, in a three-track build that transforms into a four-track machine.

The GOMACO Commander III is the best-selling multi-purpose slipform machine of all time, and this is the three-track build. Change the mold and it slipforms monolithic sidewalk, curb and gutter, barrier, slotted drain, roll-over curb, parapet, and slab. It has won Roads & Bridges magazine’s Contractor’s Choice Award for both slipform paving and curb and gutter every year since 2007, with more than 40 years of paving technology built in.

The three-track machine is quick and precise on tight work. Independent hydraulic travel to each track lets G+ control individual track speed through a radius, push-button smart cylinders set the steering, and a GBox on every leg keeps sensors and service points at ground level.

Its trim-and-pour setup keeps yield high. A 42 in. (1067 mm) sectionalized trimmerhead cuts only as wide as needed, with extensions to 10 ft. (3.05 m), and it sideshifts 36 in. (914 mm) with 18 in. (457 mm) of vertical lift to clear obstacles and pave to grade. All-Track Steering sets the machine to line fast, All-Track Positioning moves the tracks around obstacles, and track speed reaches 49 fpm (15 mpm) paving and 125 fpm (38 mpm) for job-site travel. A 17 ft. (5.21 m) conveyor with a belt to 362 fpm (110 mpm) keeps concrete moving to the hopper without stopping the pour.

Benefits

The most versatile machine GOMACO builds

The Commander III is the best-selling multi-purpose machine GOMACO has made, recognized worldwide as the elite multi-application slipform paver. Change the mold and the three-track slipforms monolithic sidewalk, curb and gutter, barrier, parapet, slotted drain, and roll-over curb. It has won the Roads & Bridges Contractor’s Choice Award every year since 2007.

Transforms into a four-track paver

The three-track Commander III is not locked into three tracks. The prime mover drives onto a supported four-track frame and the track assemblies reposition, converting the machine into a four-track paver that slipforms up to 20 ft. (6 m) wide. A contractor can buy the three-track for curb, sidewalk, and barrier, then expand into wide slab paving.

Steering and positioning for tight sites

All-Track Steering sets the machine to line quickly and speeds job-site mobility, and All-Track Positioning moves the tracks to clear obstacles and site logistics. Push-button smart cylinders set the steering, independent hydraulic travel controls each track’s speed through a radius, and selective steer modes add coordinated, crab, front, and rear steering.

Built around the operator

The Commander III is designed for long days. A rear-facing cooling package improves visibility and cuts noise, one owner mistook full throttle for idle, and the isolated platform reduces vibration. A pivoting console keeps hands-on control and a clear view from anywhere, and an optional camera feeds full-colour video to the G+ screen.

Why GOMACO

Concrete paving since 1965

GOMACO has built concrete paving equipment out of Ida Grove, Iowa since 1965 and holds ISO 9001:2015 certification. The paving line covers widths up to 50 feet (15.2 m) and depths to 19 inches (483 mm), and the same machines run on interstate mainline, airport runways, city streets, and canal work around the world.

G+ Operating System

G+ is proprietary, developed by GOMACO’s own control engineers rather than adapted from an off-the-shelf platform. It uses two-way communication between the machine and its accessories, closed-loop electronic and hydraulic control, and instant digital feedback. It runs in imperial or metric and in every major language.

Family owned from the start

GOMACO is still owned and run by the family that started it. Harold and Gary Godbersen founded Godbersen Manufacturing Company in 1965, and a third generation of the family is in the business today. Roughly 350 people build every machine in Ida Grove, Iowa, across more than 500,000 sq. ft. (46,450 m²) of plant, office and engineering space.
