GOMACO GT-3600 Hybrid
The industry’s first hybrid curb and gutter machine, built on the powerful Xtreme GT-3600 with a diesel-electric powertrain.
The GOMACO GT-3600 Hybrid is the industry’s first hybrid curb and gutter machine. It takes the Xtreme GT-3600, GOMACO’s most capable three-track curb machine, and pairs its diesel with a 48-volt generator/motor and a lithium-ion battery pack, so the same machine slipforms curb and gutter, barrier, and sidewalk while burning less fuel. It keeps every Xtreme feature, down to the 24 in. (610 mm) radius.
The powertrain is the story. A 74 hp (55 kW) Caterpillar C2.8 diesel runs at its peak-efficiency point at all times, and G+ decides what to do with the power, charging the batteries when the machine needs less and adding horsepower from them when it needs more.
The result is lower running cost with no change in capability. GOMACO estimates 10 to 15 percent fuel savings or more depending on the application, and the Tier 4 Final and Stage V engine needs no diesel exhaust fluid, so there is no DEF to buy, store, or refill. The prototype carries four 7 kWh lithium-ion batteries with room for up to six, housed on a larger rear platform, and the machine keeps the same frame, engine shroud, and overall footprint as the standard GT-3600, so it transports and works like the machine crews already know.

Benefits
A diesel that always runs at its best
The hybrid’s diesel never labours or idles inefficiently. The 74 hp (55 kW) Caterpillar C2.8 holds its peak-efficiency point at all times, and G+ routes the power. When the machine draws less, the surplus charges the batteries; when it draws more, G+ turns the generator into a motor and the batteries add horsepower.
Lower fuel cost, no DEF
The payoff is running cost. GOMACO estimates 10 to 15 percent fuel savings or more depending on the job, so a machine that pours all season sees real money back. The Tier 4 Final and Stage V engine also needs no diesel exhaust fluid, removing a consumable to buy, store, and manage on site.
Every Xtreme capability, unchanged
The hybrid gives up nothing to the standard Xtreme GT-3600. It slipforms a 24 in. (610 mm) radius, carries sensored All-Track Steering and Positioning, and runs on stringline or 3D guidance. The battery pack sits on a larger rear platform, but the frame and footprint are unchanged, so it works like the machine crews already know.
One machine, many profiles
Like the standard GT-3600, the hybrid changes profiles through the mold. Optional molds cover curb and gutter, stand-up and roll-over curb, barrier and parapet to 50 in. (1270 mm), and sidewalk. A sectionalized trimmerhead reaches 66 in. (1676 mm) wide with 48 in. (1219 mm) of sideshift, and guillotine- or California-style depressors slipform through driveways without wasting material.
Why GOMACO
Concrete paving since 1965
GOMACO has built concrete paving equipment out of Ida Grove, Iowa since 1965 and holds ISO 9001:2015 certification. The paving line covers widths up to 50 feet (15.2 m) and depths to 19 inches (483 mm), and the same machines run on interstate mainline, airport runways, city streets, and canal work around the world.
G+ Operating System
G+ is proprietary, developed by GOMACO’s own control engineers rather than adapted from an off-the-shelf platform. It uses two-way communication between the machine and its accessories, closed-loop electronic and hydraulic control, and instant digital feedback. It runs in imperial or metric and in every major language.
Family owned from the start
GOMACO is still owned and run by the family that started it. Harold and Gary Godbersen founded Godbersen Manufacturing Company in 1965, and a third generation of the family is in the business today. Roughly 350 people build every machine in Ida Grove, Iowa, across more than 500,000 sq. ft. (46,450 m²) of plant, office and engineering space.
