Commander III Trimmer
A high-production grade trimmer on the Commander III platform, trimming curb and sidewalk profiles up to 11 ft. (3.4 m) wide.
The GOMACO Commander III Trimmer is a high-production grade-preparation machine, not a paver. It trims accurate subgrade for curb and gutter and flat or monolithic sidewalk profiles up to 11 ft. (3.4 m) wide, so the pour that follows starts on exact grade. It is built on the same framework as the Commander III curb and gutter machine, with the modifications a dedicated trimmer needs.
The trimmer is the most powerful ever fitted to a Commander III. The paving vibrator hydraulics are replaced with a larger closed-loop pump, dedicating 114 hp (85 kW) to the trimmerhead, and three air shocks keep the head stable if it strikes a rock.
The machine is set up to keep material moving and to work in tight clearance. The right front track pivots and the front tracks run parallel with the trimmerhead undermounted, giving zero trimmerhead clearance on both sides. Two 11 ft. (3.4 m) conveyors handle spoil: a transfer conveyor carries it from the trimmerhead to a discharge conveyor with 7 ft. (2.1 m) of slide, which places material over the stringline or into the centre of the roadway. The whole machine transports as a single unit at an 11 ft. (3.4 m) shipping width.

The Commander III Trimmer trades paving hardware for trimming power. GOMACO removes the vibrator hydraulics and fits a bigger closed-loop pump, dedicating 114 hp (85 kW) to the trimmerhead. It cuts flat and monolithic sidewalk and curb and gutter profiles to 11 ft. (3.4 m) wide, and a Calgary contractor reported it never slows down through clay and rock.
Doubles trimming production
The payoff is throughput. One contractor trimming monolithic profiles 2 m (6.6 ft) wide with a 550 mm (21.7 in) curb went from a target of about 500 lineal metres (1,640 ft) a day on their old method to 800 to 1,000 lineal metres (2,625 to 3,281 ft) with the Commander III Trimmer, roughly doubling daily production without a loss in grade quality.
Air-shock stability through rock
Trimming is punishing on a machine when the grade hides rock. The Commander III Trimmer’s head rides on three air shocks that keep it stable and absorb the force if it strikes a large rock, so the impact does not reach the mainframe. The result is a clean, consistent profile even in rocky soil.
Two conveyors, single-unit transport
Two 11 ft. (3.4 m) conveyors clear the cut material: a transfer conveyor moves it from the trimmerhead to a discharge conveyor with 7 ft. (2.1 m) of slide, placing spoil over the stringline or into the roadway centre. The pivoting front track gives zero trimmerhead clearance on both sides, and the machine ships as a single unit.

GOMACO is still owned and run by the family that started it. Harold and Gary Godbersen founded Godbersen Manufacturing Company in 1965, and a third generation of the family is in the business today.
